I go to a university known for it's art school, but it's your typical university. Because of this I thought'd I could tell you guys what I feel like I'm missing, and what I'm happy to have.
What I'm Missing
From what I've seen from students who do go to an Art College there are a lot more unique art classes to take. I feel like some of these would be more specialized, meaning you could get a better understanding of that aspect of what you wanna do. There's even specific art colleges for jobs, like the Kubert School that teaches you about making comic books. Another aspect that would be really fun is having only art classes. Going to school at a normal university I'm still having to take the same required core as the rest of the students who attend. To be able to focus solely on art would be amazing, and I'm sure everyone improves their skills insanely fast. Lastly, although my school has a great reputation for art and therefore has connections it seems likely that art colleges have even more connections. These are one of the most important parts of attending school for art, or anything, since this is what will get you work.
What I'm Glad to Have
I love how many different types of people I get to meet at my university. If I was just at an art school I would only meet artists. While I love artists I feel that it's a great thing to surround yourself with a variety of scholars. There's also plenty of opportunity to change your mind and do something else with your life. If you have another hobby or topic you love along with art this may be good for you. Similarly, you can minor in something outside of the art realm. I'm personally going to minor in business. Not only will this help me in what I want to do but it also will allow me to have more job opportunities if I get desperate for money at some point after college.
I have reduced my blog posts to once a week to try to write higher quality posts. I still don't feel that I had the time to do so this week but hopefully next week will be great.:)
