Hi, my name is Ellie- but you'll find all my social media under the name "ArtyRae". I am, as of this post, 18 years old and I am obsessed with comic books- especially DC Comics. That's where my username comes from. I got my start in superheroes when I watched Teen Titans, then eventually I also watched Justice League and Young Justice as well. I grew to love these characters like real friends (sad, but true) and chose two of my favorites, Artemis and Raven, to create my username.
My main dream is to someday publish my own comic book, something I've already been working on for a few years. I'm taking my time so that the story I see in my head can truly come to life. Part of how I'm doing that is college, I am currently a freshman art major and my hope is that when I graduate I'll be ready to undertake the work of a comic book.
I actually had an interesting start to my art journey, it began in geometry class my Sophomore year of high school. We were assigned a project where we put a grid over a chosen picture (mine was Raven, of course) and copied the small picture onto a page much bigger. I was asked then if I was an artist, and I was shocked because I never thought I could draw. I took a closer look at my project and realized that it wasn't as far-fetched as I thought. If I could do this, I could probably draw some of my other favorite characters! The next few months I spent using the grid technique to draw superheroes, even making a ginormous poster that still hangs in my room today. But it started to wear on me that I wasn't making original art, and when I tried it was laughed off by my friends. So I stopped trying for about four months before I realized my dream to create a comic. I went and picked up a sketchbook, determined to learn to draw- and the rest is history!
